Carnival and adidas Celebrate Retro Gaming With the “Grey Console” EVO SL

Bangkok’s Carnival is on a roll with their sneaker releases this year. Today, the retailer quietly dropped a new adidas project, a pair of the EVO SL running shoe inspired by retro gaming consoles.

The adidas EVO SL is a rare breakthrough from performance to street style in the modern sneaker era. Designed for their AdiZero running line, the model’s sleek shape and relatively simplistic look helped push it over the boundary between true performance and everyday wear. Packed with LightStrike Pro cushioning, the EVO SL is insanely comfortable for just walking around, and has been featured in a number of lifestyle collaborations from brands like BAPE, Naked, Pharrell, Star Wars, and Hartcopy. This week, Bangkok retailer Carnival added their take on the show to the growing list of collaborations, dressing the model in a color inspired by retro gaming consoles. While their exact reference point wasn’t shared, likely to avoid infringing on IP, the “Grey Console” name, grey scale look, and colorful accents seem to nod to both the Nintendo SNES and N64’s iconic controllers.

The drop quietly appeared on their website today, and sizes having been disappearing quickly over the last few hours. It is not currently clear if adidas will give this EVO SL a wider release, so act fast to grab a pair. Inspired by retro gaming consoles like the SNES and N64, pairs are priced at $170.
