The Air Jordan 7 released in 1992 and departed from every previous Jordan in one major way: no visible Air unit on the sole. Tinker Hatfield drew inspiration from Afropop and West African tribal art, creating a Jordan that looked less like basketball performance footwear and more like a cultural artifact.
The AJ7 was also Michael Jordan's second championship shoe — he wore it during the 1991-92 Chicago Bulls season, winning his second NBA title against the Portland Trail Blazers. The AJ7 was also his shoe at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics as part of the original Dream Team, making it one of the most culturally visible Jordans of the early 1990s.
Cultural moments:
-
Barcelona 1992 Olympics:

-
Space Jam (1996):
Bugs Bunny's "Hare" AJ7 colorway, launched alongside the Space Jam promotional campaign, remains one of the most requested AJ7 retros
-
Second championship:
1992 NBA Finals
Signature colorways:
- Olympic — white/navy/red patriotic tribute to the 1992 Dream Team
