adidas Unveils FutureCool, the Next Evolution of Their 3D-Printed Sneakers

After nearly a year since being previewed, adidas is finally releasing their next generation of 3D-printed sneakers, starting with the FutureCool.

adidas’ foray into 3D printing has been one of my personal favorite stories in sneakers for a decade. The FutureCraft program kicked off in 2016, with their initial introduction of a printed midsole. That pair was designed for a standard FDM printing technique, and would not hold up to extended use. Quickly afterward, they announced a partnership with the Bay Area’s Carbon, which used SLS printing to form a lattice structure out of resin, resulting in a bouncy, structurally sound sole they could apply to performance running. This decade, adidas became the first major brand to make the leap into fully printed sneakers, starting with a new evolution ClimaCool, a sneaker I absolutely loved.

Today, the Three Stripes has finally announced the release of their next-gen printed sneaker model, the FutureCool. Originally previewed last November, the new silhouette upgrades the fully printed design introduced in 2024, adding some much-needed adjustments like a extra traction underneath, and fewer gaps for water to seep into the sole. The FutureCool is slimmer, bearing a shape closer to modern running shoes, and appears to add a flexible, asymmetric tongue piece to make them easier to take on and off. The FutureCool debuts through the Confirmed app next week in an off-white and black color scheme, but be warned: sizes are sparse. Currently, they are only accepting entries for sizes 6.5, 9.5, and 12.5, a frankly embarrassing way to debut a brand new model with updated technology. I am always interested in buying these printed models from the Three Stripes, but not having more standard sizes available, like the men’s 10 I need, is just a weird way to launch new product.

ADIDAS FUTURECOOL RELEASE INFORMATION

The next installment in adidas’ ongoing experimentation with 3D-printing has been scheduled to release next week, on September 3rd, 2026. Dubbed FutureCool, the new silhouette formally blends their FutureCraft intiative with the ClimaCool line, resulting in a sleek, runner-like shape with tons of breathability and a more refined, durable outsole. The model will drop in off-white & black for its debut, carrying a retail price of $180. Pairs will be exclusive to the Confirmed app for this release, though right now sign-ups are only available in sizes 6.5, 9.5 and 12.5.
