The adidas NMD_R1 first launched five years ago, debuting a new direction for the Three Stripes lifestyle lineup. Now, as the brand celebrates the beloved silhouette, the Originals team rehashes the Primeknit NMD in its original color scheme.

2021 marks five years of the adidas NMD, or Nomad, a lifestyle silhouette originally introduced in 2015 before hitting worldwide markets the following year. So far, the Three Stripes have been relatively quiet about the special occasion regarding the sneaker that was the driving force behind hype for the brand just a few years ago. The first celebratory release came at the top of the year when adidas Originals launched three limited-edition colorways celebrating several fan-favorite releases from the NMD_R1’s original run, Pharrell’s signature version, the SNS “Datamosh” pairs, and Nice Kicks’ tie-dye edition. Now, adidas is taking some inspiration from the NMD’s original look for its latest release, pitting the Primeknit version of the lifestyle sneaker in an entirely black upper while lush red and blue tones stand out on the midsole inserts. The signature Three Stripes are reduced to simple stitching lines for this pair, while dual leather pull tabs complete the look.
