Star Wars Day is just around the corner, and the legendary IP has teamed up with adidas for another sneaker release to celebrate the occasion. This year, Japan’s Nanzuka Studio contributes graphic artwork for a special pair of the Superstar XLG.
The relationship between adidas and Star Wars began in 2010, when the two released a massive collection of sneakers with the iconic action figure packaging. The two released regular projects in the years following, and even increased their output once Disney acquired the IP in 2012. Releases are usually centered around May 4th, the unofficial Star Wars Day, and this year the two have a special pair lined up, teaming up with Japanese art gallery Nanzuka to provide graphics. The project features the Superstar XLG, a modified version of the classic silhouette with a hefty midsole upgrade. Nanzuka’s art appears on either side, adding dense graphics alongside black & white images of C3-PO and R2-D2.
