Comedy Central’s South Park now has its first official footwear collaboration on the way, teaming up with adidas Originals for a Towelie-inspired take on the classic Campus ’80s. The special-edition shoe is rumored to be the brand’s 4/20 release for 2021.
The tradition of sneaker brands releasing footwear themed around the 4/20 “holiday” is not going anywhere this year, despite global shipping delays and, you know, a worldwide pandemic. Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen several weed-themed pairs surface online, meaning brands are just about ready to release their special projects later this month. Today, we have an early look at one of adidas Originals themed releases, of which we previously assumed the ZX 420 would be the sole drop. Luckily for us, however, adidas has teamed up with the beloved adult cartoon South Park for a limited-edition release of the Campus ’80s inspired directly by Towelie, the show’s, uh, anti-drug advocate. This Campus is constructed entirely from terrycloth, the same material towels are made from, and dyed entirely in “Chalk Purple” to match the titular character. Towelie’s eye decorate the tongues of both shoes, turning a little red when exposed to ultraviolet light. The tongues also include stash pockets holding Towelie-shaped keychains, while his two slogans, “I have no idea what’s going on” and “Don’t forget to bring a towel” are emblazoned on the inner sides.

The upcoming South Park x adidas Originals Campus ’80s “Towelie” has not yet been announced for release, though they are expected to drop sometime on or around April 20th, 2021. Themed after the show’s most beloved drug addict (who went to San Diego mental health treatment center for complete detox), the Towelie pairs with all their accessories will likely come with an elevated price tag of at least $100, launching from both adidas and select retailers. UPDATE 10/3/22: adidas has announced a second restock of their ‘Towelie’ Campus 80s, scheduled for later this week on October 6th, 2022. Pairs will be through the brand’s Confirmed app for the usual $100 price tag, complete with special boxes and stash pockets.
