Pharrell Williams wants everyone to be rocking a pair of his signature NMD line. To help complete this goal, he and adidas will release several collections of the shoe this year, including this upcoming Afro Hu NMD Trail Pack.
While Pharrell’s previous releases with the adidas have all been eye-catching, the new Afro Hu NMD is the brightest collection yet. Featuring three shoes paying homage to the continent of Africa, each pair is decorated in a combination of eccentric patterns and the usual message down the forefoot of the shoe. One pair features a gold, black, and white camo upper, highlighted by a red and teal Coogi-esque pattern on the interior lining. The detailing on this pair will include a black support cage, white heel tab, and redesigned red trail outsole. The message across the front of this pair reads “Empower and Inspire.” The next pair features a teal upper accentuated by grey and white hits. The same teal and red based pattern decorates the interior, and a purple cage holds the orange laces in place, matching the orange outsole. The shoe’s message reads “Milele Mbele”, a Swahili saying meaning forever. The final shoe from the bunch features the most color variation, including a red upper broken up by grey and white areas. The heel tab on this pair is a bright green, while the blue cage holds plain white laces across the foot. The pair is completed by a rugged yellow outsole, and the words “Mother Land” running up the foot. The messages on each pair are not written normally, instead they are written in ‘1337 5P34K’, a system of spelling where letters are replaced with a number that are visually similar. The leaked images also reveal a new trail outsole for the shoe, something we can expect to migrate onto more standard models throughout the year.
