Shohei Ohtani’s New Balance 990v6 is a Japan Exclusive

New Balance athlete and All-Star MLB player Shohei Ohtani is finally getting a signature lifestyle sneaker release from the Boston brand. Sadly, his collegiate blue, green, and white take on the 990v6 will be a Japan exclusive.

Shohei Ohtani’s star continues to rise in the world of baseball, as the World Series champion racks up accolades and endorsement deals. Ohtani shocked the world of footwear several years ago when he announced a multi-year partnership with New Balance, bringing the Boston brand further into the world of baseball. With the FuelCell Ohtani 1 signature already available in both cleat and trainer forms, the two are readying a new release of the 990v6.

The upcoming Ohtani x New Balance 990v6 is rumored to be a special release to celebrate the MLB’s upcoming Tokyo Series, which will bring American baseball teams to play in Japan. The colorful new look is likely inspired by Shohei’s time with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, a team in Japan, and features collegiate shades of forest green and navy blue for its base layers. The rest of the shoe is framed in white, with an aged midsole to complete the look.

The Nike Air Superfly Gets Wild with an “Ale Brown” Color Scheme

Nike Air Superfly Ale Brown HQ7955-200

Nike’s Air Superfly retro made its debut earlier this year, its first return to shelves ever since its debut in 2001. This week, we have an early look at a new “Ale Brown” style of the racing shoe, coming this Summer.

Nike has spent the last few years revamping some iconic silhouettes from their history. However, they have also revived a number of somewhat forgotten models, particularly experimental running shoes from the late ’90s and early ’00s. The Air Max Sunder is one of these shoes that have seen plenty of success, and now they are ready to give the Air Superfly a shot.

The Air Superfly was originally built as an ultralight performance running shoe. Now, two-and-a-half decades later, the model is back in Nike’s rotation, this time as a lifestyle model. As fashion trends swing back from ‘dad’ shoes and back towards sleek, streamlined models, the Superfly is the perfect response from Nike. The shoe’s latest colorway gives it a colorful mix of shades, beginning with its Ale Brown leather upper. This is paired with a soft Sesame brown for the tongue and toe panels, while a vivid green sole and red Swooshes complete the look.

New Balance’s Latest Retro Runner, the 471, Arrives March 2025

0

New Balance’s lifestyle offerings largely consist of older performance models reimagined for casual wear. This month, they are releasing a brand new silhouette, the 471, inspired by their heritage running shoes from the 1970s.

New Balance’s last few years have been spent buffing their lifestyle offerings, and leaning into the ‘dad’ shoe trend that they started back in the late 2010s. In the last five years, we’ve seen the Boston brand introduce a number of new casual silhouettes inspired by their history of running shoes, like the 327 and 237, both of which are inspired by trainers from the 1970s and ’80s.

This month, NB is introducing another runner-style silhouette inspired by that same time period, the 471. This sleek new offering is a bit more low profile than its predecessors, but adds some flare with its paneling layers. The shoe rests on a simple, slim EVA rubber midsole, which comes in white with a gum outsole for its debut “Timberwolf” look. The mesh base of the upper also comes in plain white, while suede overlays add structure to the toes, eyestays, and heels. Finally, a soft purple leather N logo completes the look.

Nike SB debuted their second signature shoe for Ishod Wair at the beginning of 2024, and have amassed an excellent range of colors since. This week, the model has surfaced in the iconic “Silver Bullet” look, coming soon.

Ishod Wair’s second signature sneaker with Nike SB has been a quiet hit so far this year. The Air Max-cushioned model launched back in January, and has been pumping out fun and clean colorways, and even a collaboration with Verdy along the way. This week, a new style surfaced that calls back to an Air Max icon – the Silver Bullet.

The Air Max 97 Silver Bullet has been a legendary piece of the Air Max family since its debut in the late ’90s. The metallic silver, black, and red palette has been revisited and rehashed a number of times in the past two-plus decades, but this Ishod pair might be some of their finest work yet. The shoe gets a metallic coating for its leather outer layers, leaving the mesh sidewalls in a dull grey shade. Bright red Nike branding helps the shoe stand out, with hints of black to complete the look.

New Balance Presents a Seamless 1906R “Taped” Pack

0

New Balance’s 1906 model has been a constant piece of their catalog since its return in 2022, and domination of the collab circuit. This season, the model is getting a new utilitarian upgrade, with a near-seamless taped upper and toggle lacing.

The 1906R has been dominant in New Balance’s releases over the last three years. The model originally released in 2009, and was named after the year that the brand was founded, in addition to being a part of the 1000 series of running shoes. In the few years since its return, we’ve seen plenty of iterations of the former performance model, including R, D, M, and U subtitles that each denote a specific purpose and use different materials.

This week, the 1906R style returns with a whole new style, which looks to be more at home under the Utility banner. The new pairs come with a soft knitted mesh upper, and use taped overlays instead of sewn textiles, reducing their total weight and profile to be more of a sock-like snug fit. Even the tongues have been slimmed down to a single layer of synthetic textile for a tech-wear inspired look. The lacing system has been replaced by toggle lacing for eacy adjustment, with pull tabs added at the heel. Two colorways are coming soon, one in grey and white, and the second in black and navy blue.

NEW BALANCE 1906R “TAPED” PACK RELEASE INFORMATION

CNCPTS ended 2024 with a bang, releasing two pairs of champagne-inspired New Balance 740 colorways. Now, they have teased their next project, several styles of the 1000 runner inspired by the discontinued $1,000 bill.

Boston retailer CNCPTS is one of the best sneaker collaborators in the game, dedicating a ton of time and thought to each of their unique projects. Their releases focus not just on the attention to detail in each shoe, but to the storytelling around it and the crossover between the two. Still fresh off of a release with New Balance featuring the 740, their creative lead Deon Point is now teasing the next release, the 1000.

CNCPTS has centered one of their most famous New Balance releases around money, with the 2013 998 “C-Note”, which celebrated the redesign of the $100 bill. Now, they are preparing to release the 1000 runner with inspiration from the discontinued $1,000 bill. The bill left circulation in 1969 due to a lack of use, but lives on as a fun myth to this day. The main shoe in the photo is expected to be the final release, though they could drop several pairs at once.

The adidas Ultraboost originally debuted in 2015, as the brand’s premier new running shoe. The model was one of the early silhouettes to incorporate Boost into its design, following in the lead of the PureBoost, the model worn by Kanye that helped the line skyrocket to popularity. The adidas AE1 Low “Arctic Night” Releases in March 2025

The AE1 from adidas has been on a phenomenal run this year, with plenty of different color options for one of the best basketball shoes in recent memory. The hot streak will continue into 2025, with styles like this “Arctic Night” pair coming in Spring.

Anthony Edwards’ first signature shoe with adidas is one of the few performance models in the last decade to rack up Sneaker of the Year nominations. The model made its debut last December in its high-cut version, before the more approachable, low-top variant debuted this Summer. Since then, the Three Stripes has been laser focused on the Low, issuing new colors every few weeks.

This week has brought us a ton of previews for some upcoming heat in the AE1 line. The “Champagne” and “Blue Burst” styles are some of our favorites, but the “Arctic Night” pair seen here is a hot contender as well. As with most AE1 releases, the special sauce is in its plastic honeycomb cage unit, which comes in a shimmering and color-changing blue and purple combination, reminiscent of the Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights. To complete this nod, this pair features bright green adidas branding and an additional set of laces in a matching shade.
