adidas has tapped Florida retailer Fresh Rags for a special release this week, dressing their Handball Spezial trainer in an earthy brown colorway for the “Boiled Peanuts” theme.
adidas has a knack for seeking out lesser known stores and brands and teaming up for special projects, typically with a unique regional theme. This week, Florida boutique Fresh Rags is getting that treatment, though that is not to say they are ‘lesser known’, their collaborative output is just rather limited compared to some of the household name sneaker stores. Founded in 2008, Fresh Rags has been supplying Florida with the latest and greatest in sneakers and streetwear for nearly twenty years, carrying a huge range of goods from Sperry to Mitchell & Ness to COMME des GARÇON.
For their collaborative debut with adidas, Fresh Rags is taking inspiration from a classic treat in the American South; hot boiled peanuts. Made by boiling raw, undried peanuts for hours, the same care and attention went into this highly detailed pair of the Handball Spezial. The vintage trainer starts with a ripstop underlay in dark brown, adding a matching tone of rippled leather along the toes and tongues. The heel counters and eyestays comes in a lighter tan color with a texture akin to a peanut shell, while white, red, and yellow accents mimic the colorful packaging you’d receive the delicacy in. Finally, branding on the tongue is also made to echo the packaging, while golden lace jewels and gold foil “Southern Caviar” round out the special design.

The new release from Florida retailer Fresh Rags and adidas has been scheduled to launch tomorrow, August 8th, 2026. The shoes are limited to just 813 individually numbered pairs, and will be available tomorrow via an in-person event in St. Petersburg, with any remaining stock dropping online at 6pm ET. The look comes in brown tones with white and red accents, and is accompanied by a collection of tees, pants, and accessories.
