The Ultraboost 19 is almost ready to pass on the torch to the upcoming 2020 version, but adidas still has a little gas left in the tank. This week, Shanghai’s DOE reworks the renowned running silhouette with a new Micropacer-inspired cage.
DOE is not exactly a household name in the United States, but if you know, you know. The Shanghai-based hybrid coffee shop and streetwear store founded by a trio of lifestyle-driven men, the shop is top destination for high-end product. This year, the brand is celebrating its 5 year anniversary through numerous collaborations with brands like Parra, Converse, and adidas. Speaking of the latter, the two recently announced their latest project together, which sees DOE delivering their first-ever global adidas Consortium release. Using the Ultraboost 2019 as their canvas, the collaboration combines the now-famous running silhouette with the legendary Micropacer. While the final version lacks the actual pedometer of the Micropacer, (unless you’re considered friends or family) the result is still an impressive looking shoe. The sleekness of the UB19 is amplified by a lack of a lacing system, instead replaced with a single-piece cage that appears to be constructed from neoprene, or a similarly elasticated material. DOE’s Ultraboost19 pays homage to the Micropacer’s original color scheme through a light grey upper, red heel reinforcement, and a dash of light pull on the heel tab. Finally, the shoe is finished off by dual branded insoles.
