Blondey McCoy is getting his own adidas shoes. The London-based multi-hyphenate skateboarder/designer/artist/model and all-around Instagram sensation will be working on a special iteration of the adidas Superstar, dropping later this year.
21-year-old Blondey McCoy has made quite a name for himself in recent years. After gaining fame on Instagram as a street skater, the London resident quickly found himself modeling for a number of different high-profile brands, as well as designing his own clothing and accessories. Fast forward a few years, and McCoy has formed a unique bond with the adidas Skateboarding sector, one that comes to fruition this month with the appearance of a new signature model.
Blondey McCoy’s take on the adidas Superstar is an exciting new change for the legendary silhouette. Despite retaining the overall look and shape of the classic shell toe, albeit with a few changes. The tongue and lacing system are still constructed from leather, along with the heel counter and signature Three Stripes. However, that’s about where the similarities end. The rest of the upper has been rebuilt using clear PVC plastic, showing off the wearer’s foot with crystal clear clarity. The shoe features ventilation along the stripes to help keep moisture from forming under the surface. Finally, McCoy’s Superstar is completed by gold foil Blondey branding and a brown gum outsole and rubber shell toe.
Blondey McCoy’s unique new project with adidas, focusing on the legendary Superstar, has not yet been announced for release, though given the appearance of these official images, they’re likely to be dropping in the coming weeks. The PVC-constructed pair will likely retail above $120, and release from a limited number of adidas retailers.
