The Lunar New Year actually just began but adidas has revealed a sneak-peak at their closing celebration Ultra Boost which celebrates the Lantern Festival and is dubbed “Yuanxiao”.
The english translation of “Yuanxiao” is actually a weird one as it actually refers to rice balls but in China and other parts of the world, it represents something much bigger than that. Providing deep roots in families and traditions, Yuanxiao represents family, happiness, and harmony. While there is depth to add to a sneaker, adidas portrays the Yuanxiao meaning allover this new Ultra Boost.
This new design is luxurious and extravagant but also respectful. With an all-over print of plants and flowers in soothing colors or blue, green and dark red, black nubuck overlays texturize the shoe on the toe and heel. Gold branding on the tongue and heel allows the elegant look to continue while an all-black Boost midsole and outsole completes the design.
