The adidas Superstar was originally built as a premier basketball shoe, but has long since retired from the performance category to maintain a steady presence in the lifestyle world. This week, adidas is bridging the two with a new “Coast 2 Coast” NBA pack.
The sports world has taken a strange turn in the COVID era, rapidly evolving into a seemingly year-round season, with nearly every major sport finding an (almost) safe method to continue their matchups without risk of exposing the athletes. Luckily for us, this means that basketball is basically cramming two whole seasons into one calendar year, with the ’20-’21 season kicking off earlier this week. In addition to more sports on TV, this means more team-themed releases from our favorite brands, and adidas has already teed up their latest project, the “Coast 2 Coast” Superstar collection, which pits the classic court shoe in split Lakers and Knicks color scheme. Both pairs feature white leather construction, with the stripes and heel tabs taking on team colors. For the Lakers pair, purple takes over the lateral side stripes with gold on the lateral side, and the two meeting at the heel. Next, the Knicks pair features orange later stripes, lue medial sides, and a split heel tab.

adidas Originals’ new NBA-themed colorways of the classic Superstar have not yet been announced for release, though we expect them to drop in the coming weeks as the new NBA season continues to ramp up. Available in split-color Knicks or Lakers colorways, either pair will run you a cool $90 from both adidas and select retailers.
