adidas’ early 2000s Supernova Cushion runner appears to be gearing up for a retro release this year, thanks to the emergence of a classic white & blue color scheme, and now, this special-edition ‘Groundhog Day’-themed pair.
adidas’ Performance model footwear from the turn of the century has seen a new lease on life in recent years, as fashion continues to focus on the retro or vintage for inspiration. This has led the Three Stripes to pull a number of classic and lesser-known models from their archives, transforming them for the modern day or rebuilding them as closely as possible to the original. Recently, the brand’s early-2000s Supernova Cushion 7 has been making appearances around the sneaker world, first in a classic white & blue style, before surfacing in a Groundhog Day-themed release this week. Inspired by the beloved Bill Murray movie, this version of the vintage runner begins with a pale olive base layer, before adding overlays in both light & dark shades of brown. Blue, green, and gold accents are also spotted around the shoe, while 3M tongues and heel counters add some flare to the design. Finally, the heels and insoles are adorned with a groundhog face.

adidas Originals’ retro release of the performance-built Supernova Cushion 7, in collaboration with Bill Murray’s famous film Groundhog Day has not yet been set for release. However, early pairs of the premium version are currently avialable from Hypebeast’s HBX in limited sizes. The early-2000s runner comes with a price tag of approximately $140. UPDATE 6/17/22: adidas has announced the release of the Groundhog Day-themed Supernova Cushion, slated for next week on June 25th, 2022. The retro runner will be available initially from the Confirmed app, for $120.
