The adidas Solar was a bust when it first released in 2015. Despite the silhouette’s incredible performance benefits, it just never gained the attention it deserved. Now, the Three Stripes is trying again, reviving the line with the new Solar Boost 2018.

adidas Boost technology is beginning to become a standard for the brand. While the addition of the soft beaded-foam to any midsole is usually a welcome feature in new adidas shoes, the must-have hype is beginning to fade. This is largely on purpose, as the Three Stripes always intended for Boost to become a common material in their shoes. The latest addition to join the foam family is the updated Solar Boost, a performance shoe originally released back in 2015.

The adidas Solar Boost 2018 aims to amend some of the overlooked details from the original. The OG Solar line debuted as Boost took off in lifestyle models as well as the always-popular Ultra Boost. The simple and slim design was not enough to catch the public eye then, but the new look for 2018 should do the trick. Built with a new mesh upper, the adidas Solar Boost uses differences in the density of materials to build its sturdy upper, which is connected to the sole via the brand’s patented Solar Rail. This plastic-like layer running along the sole is built to provide better direction and support for your foot, working in partnership with the Torsion Bar stretching from heel to forefoot.

The upgraded adidas Solar Boost is a first in many categories for the brand. While the silhouette debuts their new Solar Rail technology, one of the most interesting additions is the shoe’s use of Parley Ocean Plastic. The Solar Boost will mark the first time that adidas has used the recycled plastic thread in a shoe not made in collaboration with Parley.
