The adidas ZX 8000 has seen a new lease on life over the last year, as the Three Stripes reintroduced the ZX franchise’s most beloved model to their arsenal. Now, adidas is tapping the vintage shoe to celebrate a piece of history between Japan and Germany.
In 1990, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Germany began to rebuild its nation. To help with the reunification of the country, former German ally Japan raised roughly one million euros during the Hanami/Yozakura Festival, to donate some their famous cherry blossom trees country in disrepair. Now, 25 years later, the Cherry Blossom trees still stand in Germany, creating the famous Kirschblütenallee, or ‘cherry blossom alley’ that gives adidas new release its name.
The Kirschblütenallee pack, featuring two pairs of the legendary adidas ZX 8000, celebrates this moment from Japan and Germany’s history with two colorways to mark the special occasion. First, the Hanami color scheme is directly inspired by the cherry blossoms themselves, taking on a layered pink color scheme with red accents to mimic the look of the flowers. Next is the Yozakura color scheme, which refelcts the appearance of the blossoms during the nighttime, when the colors appear as a more muted grey with only a hint of pink shining through.

adidas’ upcoming two-pack of ZX 8000 silhouettes, celebrating Japan’s gift of Cherry Blossoms to Germany, is scheduled to release later this week, on March 13th, 2020. The two distinct colorways, one pink and one grey, will be available from both adidas and select retailers, such as the UK’s Hanon, for approximately $130.
