adidas’ latest sustainable sneakers are here. Debuted in Japan this past week, the “Clean Classics” collection rebuilds two Three Stripes staples, the Superstar and Stan Smith, out of recycled materials for a more environmentally-friendly selection of sneakers.

adidas was one of the first main sneaker brands to launch a sustainability initiative within their walls, debuting their collaboration with Parley back in 2017. Since then, the project has expanded repeatedly, adding the recycled ocean plastic yarn to more and more Three Stripes footwear in the years since its debut. Now, in 2020, adidas is doubling down on their reusing of materials, debuting a number of new silhouettes this year that are vegan- and waste-friendly. This week, they come in the form of the new “Clean Classics” collection, which uses recycled materials to create less wasteful versions of the Superstar and Stan Smith. Both pairs in the collection are made from at least 70% recycled materials, from the repurposed leather uppers to the recycled rubber midsoles, as well as cork insoles to complete the look.
