The adidas archives are filled with unique and experimental technologies that changed the footwear game when they debuted. This week, the Three Stripes announced the revival the fan-favorite Peg System in the form of the adidas G.S., coming soon.

In the 1980s, the design team at adidas came up with a new cushioning system that allowed runners to buy one pair of shoes and customize the shock absorption to their liking. This was achieved through a revolutionary ‘Peg System’, which slotted three quarter-inch-wide rubber pegs into the heel section of the shoe. Each shoe came with a total of 15 pegs in three colors, each representing a different density of the rubber they were made from. By mixing and matching the pegs, athletes could adjust the adidas G.S. precisely to their liking. This week, we got our first look at the Three Stripes new retro release of the G.S., remixing the classic silhouette with a 50% recycled upper and flashy metallic silver stripes.
