Late in 2020, adidas kicked off a string of releases celebrating the 1984 Forum and its contributions to both basketball and footwear history. This month, that celebration continues with the release of the Forum ’84 High in a vintage “Orbit Grey” colorway.

The adidas Forum basketball shoe first debuted in 1984, replacing the Top Ten as the Three Stripes’ premier basketball shoe. Priced at $100, a nearly unthinkable high for the time, the Forum quickly became the standard for all-leather basketball shoes, thanks to its availability in both low and high formats. Now, the Forum is a piece of history, celebrated as a stepping stone in basketball footwear technology as well as a major influence on adidas design for decades to come. This week, we’ve gotten early looks at several upcoming releases of the Forum ’84, like this “Orbit Grey” vintage styling set to drop in the next few weeks. Featuring a mix of suede, nubuck, and leather across its high-top upper, this Forum comes in a palette of neutral, white-based tones like cream, eggshell, off-white, and simply plain white to create a look that appears as though it has been sitting in the sun for a decade or so. The look highlights the way materials age and changes color over time, mimicking thrifted pairs of the classic sneaker that pop up on social media every so often.
