In a collab that we would never had expected adidas Originals has teamed up with the popular AriZona Iced Tea for two pairs of Yung-1’s and Continental 80’s. The pop-up went down yesterday but brewed up quite the frenzy that resulted in NYPD shutting the event down.
It seems like everyone was prepared for the chaos except adidas and AriZona. Other shops that were located near the pop-up closed down because they knew how crazy the scene would get. Especially since the collaboratory shoes were going to be released for a price of just 99-cents, you can only expect how rowdy New Yorkers would be, but who can blame them? Before anyone could even get their hands on a pair, NYPD shut the event down due to how dangerous the situation was turning out to be.
Both brands were apologetic for the situation if it counts as AriZona tweeted, “Thanks to our loyal fans that came out to support our partnership with adidas. Due to overwhelming demand and safety concerns, the NYPD shutdown our pop-up. We sincerely apologize to all of our fans that waited in line. We are actively working to remedy the situation.” So apparently it looks like a release will still be scheduled but it will be interesting if the shoes take on the already advertised price of $0.99.
For many fans, the event left a bitter taste in their mouth with the two brands. A lot of them camped out the night before in the early mornings in the rain just to realize that there was no security to manage the event. From many outsiders looking in, many question whether it was a planned publicity stunt or not. We may never know but hopefully, adidas and AriZona make up for the situation somehow.
Putting the chaotic release aside, the shoes look great. Each comes dressed in a themed look that coincides with AriZona’s popular Tea can. With colors like mint, pink, and yellow adorning the silhouette, they aren’t too colorful and they actually look pretty cool and for a retail of just $0.99, who can pass these up?
Whether or not we will see these release at a pop-up shop or online is unknown but some type of release is expected to go down in the near future.
