adidas has tapped one of their collaborative partners for a new release this month, celebrating Puerto Rico. Jersey City-based store Sneaker Room is debuting the project at a community event in PR on May 16, then bringing the sneaker to retail on May 30 via Sneaker Room in-store and online.
Bad Bunny has brought plenty of attention to his home, Puerto Rico, through his partnership with adidas. The musician often themes his special projects after various cities, cultural ideas, and his own personal history on the island. This week, adidas has unveiled their latest work celebrating Puerto Rico, but this time Benito is not attached to the project. Instead, New Jersey retailer Sneaker Room is leading this release as part of adidas’ Cornerstone Community work and ongoing investment in Puerto Rican communities. Sneaker Room’s founder, Suraj Kaufman, has led multiple giveback initiatives in the country, as well as for areas in India and of course his hometown, Jersey City. The Adistar Control 5 takes the colors of the Puerto Rican flag with blue mesh, white synthetic overlays, and red accents. 3M accents decorate the Three Stripes, while a green and yellow outsole completes the look. The shoe also ships with nine interchangeable tongue patches inspired by Puerto Rican cultural symbols.
