New Balance’s 99x series has been the main focus of the Boston brand over the past few years, as their classic models grow in popularity with each season. This week, NB unveiled the 998 “MADE Responsibly” collection, a series of one-of-one colorways coming soon.

The New Balance 998 was originally unveiled in 1993, following in the footsteps of the brand’s extremely popular 997 model, and building on the legacy of the 990 series as a whole. At the time, New Balance was on its way to acquiring brand new computerized equipment and machinery for their research lab, which would quickly lead to the now-proprietary Abzorb cushioning, technology the brand uses to this day in its most popular sneakers. This week, New Balance unveiled an exciting new project focusing on the 998, delivering a batch of one-of-one colorways for the “MADE Responsibly” series. The project takes leftover materials, scraps, and midsoles from the brand’s New England factory, matching them with new parts in like colors only when necessary. The results are highly unique colorways, produced exclusively in one-off form, never to be made again.
