New Balance has teased the return of another classic model to their Made in USA lineup for this year; the 997. The model had a brief run several years ago, before going on hiatus in place of other retro styles until now. This week, we have an early look at the essential “Grey” color scheme, coming soon.
Retro running shoes from New Balance have been in high demand for the last few years, as sneaker style has shifted back to a wide selection of classic models, mostly stemming from the ’80s and ’90s. Every brand has their pair of the moment right now, from adidas’ Samba to Nike’s revival of the LD-1000 this Summer. Now, New Balance is gearing up to reissue another classic, the 997, returning the shoe to their Made in USA lineup for a wave of new colors.
The 997 from New Balance first released back in 1991, offered as a premium running sneaker with advanced cushioning and support for serious runners. The model is an essential piece of the brand’s history, becoming a fan-favorite lifestyle model in the decades since. This week, we have an official look at one of their initial releases for this Fall, pitting the Made in USA pair in the classic “Grey” look. The palette mixes warm and cool shades of grey across mesh, leather, suede, and TPU layers to recreate the iconic design.
