New Balance has scheduled a new release for this week, reviving the 1988 996 running shoe. Releasing as part of their Made in USA Seasonal Collection, the pair features shades of blue for its debut release.
New Balance has been thriving on their revival of classic sneakers over the past few years. The craze over their iconic footwear comes largely from the 99x family, a series of premium running silhouettes that began in 1982 with the 991. Recently, their focus has been on the Made in USA line, producing pairs of the 990v1, v2, and v3 under the direction of Teddy Santis of Aimé Leon Dore. This week, they unveiled a new addition to the Santis-led project, 1988’s 996. Constructed in their East Coast manufacturing facilities, this pair revives a fan-favorite model, casting it in a beautiful colorway focused on their signature blue tones. The look begins with a light blue mesh base layer, adding dark midnight blue suede layers on top. The heels come in a soft tan suede with matching plastic heel clips, while white laces, inner linings, and midsoles complete the look.
