New Balance’s 991 runner is poised for a big year in 2021, celebrating 20 years of the classic model. This week, the now-vintage model surfaced in another new MADE release, sporting a mix of burgundy and navy for the new look.

The New Balance 991 turns twenty years old in 2021, a celebratory occasion for the Boston brand and the entire 990X family of footwear. Originally introduced in 2001 as the evolutionary next step for the beloved suite of silhouettes. Marking the beginning of the 990X branding era, the 991 remodeled the mesh and pigskin suede upper with smooth, sweeping lines and curves as well as a brand new midsole that highlighted the shoe’s ABZORB cushioning underneath with visible pockets. With the anniversary celebration officially underway as of last week, the 991 emerged on the shelves of U.K. retailer size? in another new MADE color scheme, pitting the 991 in a contrasting burgundy and navy blue color scheme. The shoe is largely blocked in navy blue, which takes up the 991’s base layer as well as the suede quarter panels. The mudguard and shank pieces come in a dark red tone, while a mix of grey tones add accents around the shoe.
