New Balance Blends Tech Runners & Moccasins for the 1890A

The New Balance 1890A is the moccasin version of NB’s new 1890, a hybrid that sets a moc-toe upper on tech-runner tooling. It hit retail with the “Snakeskin” pair on July 3, 2026 at $190 to $200, and the colorways released or announced so far are rounded up below. The three tonal pairs pictured here first surfaced in January 2026.

New Balance has been on a roll with their odd, conceptual new sneaker designs over the last few years. The first one that comes to mind is the 1906L, a mashup of their 1906 runner with the construction of a slim loafer dress shoe. Then, around Paris Fashion Week in June 2025, the brand’s senior marketing manager, Lee Stuart, shared an early look at a wild new silhouette on Instagram, only known then as the 1890.

Since then, we’ve slowly learned more information about the new model, mostly through Action Bronson‘s brand new releases featuring a completely different version of the numbered model, which are more of a classic NB tech runner. In January 2026, we got another look at the hybrid version Stuart teased, along with a new name for the shoe: the 1890A. The model fuses New Balance’s signature tech runner look with the tongues and lacing structure of a moccasin, with a bound edged U-shape being the predominant feature of the shoe’s forefoot. The heels of the shoe are lower than the midfoot, placing it somewhere between a slip-on and a full sneaker. Three colors were teased at the time: a classic NB grey, a tonal dark olive green, and an off-white style with grey accents.
