Reebok’s recent dives into vintage pop culture-inspired projects have been some of the most fun sneaker releases in recent memory. This week, these special releases continue with a new capsule collection from Reebok and the GhostBusters.
Reebok’s ubiquity in the 1980s was near unheard of for a footwear brand at the time. At the height of the workout and training craze, the British brand nearly took over the entire sneaker industry thanks to their lightweight, and extremely stylish trainers like the Classic Leather, Club C, and a litany of others. To this day, most of the brand’s vintage archives are predominantly trainers, and plenty of them are just as relevant now as they were then. Recently, Reebok has been leveraging these retro archives for some interesting themed releases, like this month’s collaboration with the GhostBusters that brings us two pairs of ‘Buster inspired footwear. The first is the Classic Leather, constructed in tan canvas with GhostBuster branding on the tongues and outer walls, as well as the “We’re Ready to Believe You” tagline scrawled across the heels. The second pair is modeled after the GhostBuster’s proton packs, applied to a tweaked version of the Alien Stompers, another retro movie sneaker. Titled the Ghost Smasher, the high-top silhouette is made entirely from plain white leather, with a large, eye-catching Reebok Pump system attached to the heel, styled in the manner of the proton pack. Other GhostBuster-inspired elements like black and yellow Reebok branding and the Ghost logo on each tongue.
GHOSTBUSTERS X REEBOK HALLOWEEN CAPSULE COLLECTION RELEASE INFORMATION
The first installment of the new GHostBusters x Reebok collaboration kicks off later this week, on October 31st, 2020, an appropriately spooky release date for this project. Featuring the Classic Leather and the custom Ghost Smashers silhouettes for $100 and $150 apiece, the collaboration will be available from both Reebok and select retailers. UPDATE 3/19/22: The Ghost Smasher is back! Nearly two years after its release in October 2020, Reebok has re-released the Ghostbusters-inspired sneaker to members of the brand’s Reebok Unlocked service. A rare piece of movie tie-in sneaker history, the Ghost Smasher is currently available directly from the Reebok website for $200.
