Asics’ retro runners are taking over popular sneaker culture, with the brand supplying plenty of older models in fresh and exciting colors, even mashing them up to create new silhouettes, like the GEL-NYC. This week, that model has emerged in a new “Mocha” color scheme, coming this Summer.
Last Spring, Asics introduced the GEL-NYC, a new model combining elements from two older running shoes, repurposed for casual, everyday wear. The upper is borrowed from GEL-Nimbus 3 from the early 2000s, with the tooling and cushioning from the GEL-Cumulus 16 running shoe that arrived in 2015. The silhouette has been immensely popular over the last year and change, thanks to its incredible cushioning and a plush upper. The model has been a canvas for several collaborative releases as well, like the highly sought-after Hidden NY release from earlier this year.
This week, a new colorway of the NYC has surfaced for Summer 2024, dressing the shoe in a “Mocha”-themed palette. The look features a white mesh base layer for the upper, with metallic silver mid layers on top. Dark brown suede panels adorn the mudguards and toe caps, while the Asics branding comes in an off-white shade. The midsole is split between tan accents and off-white, with dark blue GEL cushioning embedded in between the two.
