The adidas Maker’s Lab has slowly rolled out some of the interesting sneakers designed at their events over the past few years, with the latest hitting shelves this week. Check out the new SL 7600, crafted by Japan’s Recouture and Helen Kirkum.
Early last year, adidas opened the doors of their Maker’s Lab to a handful of footwear creatives, grouping them in teams of two to create their own sneakers from bins of various pieces from classic adidas sneakers and their latest technologies, like Boost and 4D. When the multi-day event wrapped, adidas showed off some of the creations, hinting that some might even make it to production. Now, they’re finally here. Earlier this week, an odd-looking silhouette titled the adidas SL 7600 surfaced at Hanon, which many quickly recognized as the pair created by Helen Kirkum and Japan’s Recouture. Clearly inspired by the early adidas SL 72, the 7600 features a blue nylon upper with suede overlays along the toe and heel, and bold infrared stripes on either side. The tongue and inner lining show off some more modern materials, sporting a welded two-layer design with breathable mesh inserted for extra padding. Finally, the midsole is a hybrid of standard EVA rubber and Boost, the latter of which appears to take the shape of the brand’s Torsion bar, poking out of the sole in the rear lateral side and under the forefoot on the medial side.
ADIDAS MAKERS’ LAB SL 7600 RELEASE INFORMATION
The first release from adidas’ experimental Maker’s Lab events is finally ready to go, and available early from select high-tier adidas retailers, like Canada’s Hanon. Helen Kirkum and Recouture’s chopped-and-screwed take on the vintage Three Stripes sneaker comes with a retail price of approximately $140, and is expected to release at other adidas accounts in the coming weeks.
