New Balance has teased the return of another classic model to their Made in USA lineup for this year; the 997. The model had a brief run several years ago, before going on hiatus in place of other retro styles until now. This week, we have an early look at the essential “Black” color scheme, coming soon.
For the last few years, New Balance has used their Made in USA line to showcase various iconic silhouettes from the past few decades. Models are swapped in and out seasonally to provide fresh canvasses for creative director Teddy Santis and the team to play with, often from the 99x family of sneakers. This season, they are prepping the 997 for another string of premium releases, after its brief speed run to popularity in the late ’10s, which culminated in a collaboration with Aimé Leon Dore.
Now, as we move toward the fall and colder weather and darker color palettes, New Balance has unveiled some of their ‘essential’ color schemes for the 997s return. These pairs utilize the brand’s classic color blocking for the shoe in simple, neutral styles, like the “Grey” pair that surfaced earlier this month. Now, a “Black” look has joined the lineup, coming this Fall.

New Balance’s return of the 997 silhouette to the Made in USA lineup has not been announced yet, but is expected to arrive sometime in Fall 2024. The simple “Black” color scheme will be among the first to release, likely available from both their website and select retailers with a price tag of at least $200.
