New Balance’s 990v5 has been on fire since its debut last year, lighting up release calendars with subtle new colorways and flashy new collaborations. This week, the Boston brand is teaming up once more with YCMC for the money-inspired “Big Checks” 990v5.

YCMC’s relationship with New Balance has grown exponentially in the last year, as the partners dropped two different colorways of the fan-favorite running sneaker. Now, to kick off 2020, the two are back with a third installment in their ongoing collaboration, and the first to receive a full, standard-issue release, instead of the extremely limited nature of previous projects. Titled “Big Checks and No Stress”, the latest 990v5 from New balance and YCMC takes its inspiration from money, specifically tax return checks that are so prevalent this time of year. To mimic the look of a cashier’s check, the shoe is dressed in a gradient tone, changing from a subtle sand color in the toe to a bright, eye-catching teal wrapping around the heels. This 990v5 is, as always, constructed from a lightweight mesh base with pigskin suede overlays and plastic TPU reinforcement around the heel and collar of the shoe. This special-edition YCMC release also comes with flashy red laces for an extra pop of color.
