Virgil Abloh: The Codes Design

The New York edition covers fashion, footwear, art, architecture and graphic design. Prototypes, sketches and archival materials show how Abloh worked and how he moved between projects. The count of pieces differs by report: one says more than 1,000, while the Nike announcement is described as citing nearly 1,000 objects. Chloe Sultan and Mahfuz Sultan curated this edition. A retail space at The Shed was put together with Justin Saunders of JJJJound.

Shannon Abloh, founder of the Virgil Abloh Archive and the Virgil Abloh Foundation, said in the press release that the show honors how Virgil Abloh changed the way people think about creativity and collaboration. She added that it shares his process and ideas with a new generation. The Paris edition previewed the V.A.A. x Nike Zoom M9 Cryoshot, and a pine green Air Force 1 from that show went only to archive employees. Pairs made for these events do not always reach retail.

Will the Orange V.A.A. x Nike Air Force 1 Low Appear at The Codes?

Nothing has been confirmed. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander wore an orange V.A.A. x Nike Air Force 1 Low during NBA Media Day, and it carries V.A.A. branding rather than the older Off-White look. Whether it shows up in New York, or ever releases, has not been announced.
