California-based sneaker brand Vans put their best foot forward in response to the ongoing pandemic when it began last year, teaming up with small skate shops on limited footwear and giving the proceeds directly to them. Now, the “Foot the Bill” initiative is expanding to help all kinds of small businesses around the country.

Last year, Vans responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by creating the “Foot the Bill” initiative, a project aimed at helping small skate shops around the country by collaborating on limited-edition sneakers and donating all proceeds directly to the stores. The project was a success, raising over $4 million in total and over 20,000 pairs sold in support of various stores. “Foot the Bill” made its way to Europe as well, and now, the project is set to become an ongoing staple of Vans product offerings. Already up and running in collaboration with a handful of restaurants last month, the “Foot the Bill” program has released its first offerings of February this week, where Vans will be teaming up exclusively with Black-owned businesses for Black History Month. The partners include Harriett’s Bookshop in Philadelphia, Alibi Lounge in New York, and 606 Records in Chicago. Each creation is accompanied by a limited-edition t-shirt available for purchase.

Vans will be releasing new entries in the “Foot the Bill” project on a weekly basis, continuing to assist small businesses around the country. The full list of available projects is available on the brand’s website, alongside the new weekly listings. Styles, colors, and patterns change based on the partner, so make sure to check back often in case your local spot has a signature sneaker on the way.
