Vans has had a hell of a year playing with materials and inspiration for their classic sneakers. This Fall, the Old Skool gets a textile update from Harris Tweed, coloring the low top in a palette of blue tones.
Harris Tweed is a special fabric that has been woven in Scotland for generations. The textile is not made by a specific brand, but the Harris name refers to the island Lewis with Harris, one of a series of islands that make up the Outer Hebrides, roughly 25 miles from the Scottish mainland. The cloth’s integrity is maintained by the Harris Tweed Authority, whose guidelines ensure that any fabric officially designated as Harris Tweed is handwoven by the island’s natives. This week, we have an early look at a new Harris Tweed clad sneaker, the Vans Old Skool.
