New Balance’s collaborative arm continues to impress with exciting projects. This month, the Boston brand is traveling around the world to team up with Melbourne’s Up There Store, delivering the ‘Backyard Legends’ 2002R.
Australia’s Up There Store is known in their hometown for wielding both sides of the sneaker sword, delivering an excellent boutique experience for sneakerheads alongside their performance athletics division. For their latest collaboration, they are embracing the former, teaming up with New Balance to celebrate a day off in the sun, and a classic Aussie bbq. Taking on the immensely popular 2002R as their canvas, the ‘Backyard Legends’ version is essential for a day off. Featuring a wide gauge, breathable mesh base layer, they’ve added mid layers in a vivid purple shade, while lush green suede overlays are added to the mudguard, midfoot, and heels. The heel counters, outsoles, and the tongues’ ‘new balance AUS’ branding come in baby blue, while some quirky-shaped white laces complete the look.

The debut collaboration between Australia’s Up There Store and New Balance has been scheduled to release from the Melbourne boutique on July 15th, 2022. The ‘Backyard Legends’ 2002R will then see a wider release sometime in the following weeks from NB’s website, with a price tag of approximately $170.
