New Balance and Stray Rats last teamed up in January of this year, offering the classic 574 in the NYC brand’s eye-catching colors. Now, the two have unveiled their next project, casting the 991 in two matching styles.
Originally launched in Miami, Florida before moving their headquarters to New York City, Julian Consuegra’s Stray Rats label has been pushing intricate, graphic-heavy designs for over ten years now. Along the way, Consuegra made some friends at a little footwear brand known as New Balance, and the two began collaborating on some of the most high-profile NB sneaker releases in recent memory. Initially releasing two colorways of the fan-favorite 990v3, each project has utilized a classic New Balance silhouette as its canvas, and their latest work is no different. Unveiled by Consuegra on Instagram earlier this week, Stray Rats has developed two colorways of the vintage 991 runner, offering the silhouette in both bright and dark color schemes. The first is classic Stray Rats, mixing a vibrant purple upper with silver and neon green accents, while the other pair is more subtle, layering grey and pink accents over a plain black upper.
STRAY RATS X NEW BALANCE MADE IN ENGLAND 991 RELEASE INFORMATION
The latest release from Stray Rats and New Balance, this time featuring the 991, has not yet been announced for release, though Stray Rats founder Julian Consuegra’s teaser did point to a December 2021 release. Given the two’s previous collaborations, this 991 is likely to release in extremely limited numbers, exclusively to both partners’ websites, along with an elevated price tag. UPDATE 12/6/21: Stray Rats has finally announced the release of their signature New Balance 991 UK shoes, which will release via the brand’s website later this week on December 10th, 2021.
UPDATE 11/13/21: Stray Rats has finally unveiled their version of the New Balance 991 in full, giving us a closer look at the purple and brown color scheme, in addition to a previously-unseen black and silver look.
