The Nike SB Janoski is back. After celebrating the silhouette’s 10th anniversary with the “Remastered” collection last year, the Swoosh is introducing another new iteration of the Janoski in 2020, now built with upcycled FlyLeather and Nike Grind rubber.

Nike’s push for sustainability in their sneakers has brought about some incredible releases over the past year. From this Summer’s Space Hippie project to the introduction of recycled materials into nearly every one of their product lines, the “Move to Zero” campaign is making plenty of headway. This week, its latest addition to the ever-growing lineup of upcycled footwear and accessories, as well as the Nike SB team’s first foray into sustainability with the new Janoski FlyLeather RM. The new version of the classic 2009 silhouette boasts some cool new upgrades, namely swapping out the Janoski’s usual suede upper for one made from FlyLeather, a synthetic leather that contains at least 50% recycled leather fibers. However, to mimic the original suede feel of the Janoski, the leather has been flipped inside out. Next, the midsole also incorporates excess materials, adding a mix of 3% Nike Grind rubber to the sole and sidewalls, as well as thinning down some areas of the EVA for a more broken-in feel. Finally, the Swoosh on the Janoski FlyLeather features as few stitches as possible while retaining the shape of the Swoosh.
