Sacai first announced their collaboration with Nike via prototype sneakers on the runway. Since then, the shoes have largely been kept under wraps, until this week. Check out the Sacai x Nike Blazer Mid, expected to launch next month.
Sacai and Nike have formed a somewhat unexpected, yet extremely compatible relationship with each other. The fashion label, founded in Japan by Chitose Abe in 1999, has become quite an anomaly in the fashion world. Abe started the brand out of her home when she was pregnant, after feeling that her wardrobe was limited to a select few standard types of clothing. Mixing her experience as a pattern maker at CDG, she began creating comfortable and stylish clothing that could be worn on the runway, to the local PTA meeting, and to drop off the kids at school. Sacai’s ability to seamlessly transition between fashionable and functional has proven them to be one of the most versatile brands in fashion. Now, they’ll be bringing that versatility to the Swoosh through their new project.
This month, we finally have a closer look at the Nike x Sacai Blazer/Dunk Mid. Similar to the second pair in the collaboration, Chitose Abe has created a hybrid of classic Nike sneakers. The base of the shoe resembles the shape of the Nike Blazer Mid, combined with elements of the Dunk High. The Dunk’s lacing system, tongue, and signature Swoosh are placer over their respective places on the Dunk, right down to the dual set of laces. The Blazer’s vulcanized toe has been extended to take over the rest of the midsole, even reaching onto the quarter panels and climbing up the heel. Finally, the shoe is finished off with a merged Nike x Sacai logo on the heel.
SACAI X NIKE BLAZER/DUNK MID WAFFLE RELEASE INFORMATION
The Sacai x Nike Blazer/Dunk Mid is now expected to release on April 19th, 2019, though Nike has yet to confirm this. The mashup of classic Nike sneakers will likely carry a somewhat hefty price tag, though this remains to be seen.
