Nike is turning their focus to chunkier, more durable sneakers for the Fall and Winter months, delivering some updated versions of classics along with new models. This week, we have a first look at the Cygnal, a boot/sneaker hybrid making its debut during the holiday season.
Nike has been immersed in the world of outdoor sneakers since their birth in the 1960s. The brand has always created shoes to be worn outdoors by athletes, but took began to take a more concise approach in the ’70s and ’80s with the introduction of their trail running shoes. Since then, they’ve created the ACG and Trail lines, which cater specifically to tackling any terrain in any condition.
This year, the Swoosh is set to debut a new model for the avid outdoorsman, the Cygnal. Very little is known about this shoe so far, but it appears to be a durable sneaker/boot hybrid for inclement weather wear. The model features a sleek suede upper with minimal paneling mounted on top of a sleek, sculpted, but hefty midsole unit. One of its most notable features is a midfoot panel that wraps over the tongues from the medial side to protect the insides of the shoe from water.
