Nike has significantly ramped up their anniversary celebrations this decade. The Swoosh’s iconic silhouettes from the ’80s and ’90s are all hitting their 30-40 year anniversaries this decade, and festivities have continued to grow as sneaker culture has expanded past a niche audience to be included in the broader social-media-fashion-world. Last year marked the thirtieth anniversary for the Air Max 95, and Nike rolled out hundreds of colors both new and old, and adopted the OG Big Bubble format from the Air Max 1’s anniversary a few years back. Next up is the Air Max 97.
The last anniversary releases of the Air Max 97 arrived in 2022. The celebration included retros of classic colors like the Gold & Silver Bullets, collaborations from Undefeated and Megan Thee Stallion, and new styles like the Futura variant. Nike is hosting a showroom at Paris Fashion Week right now, giving us a ton of early looks at some wild upcoming releases, including a first look at fresh Air Max 97s for next year. Seen in a short Instagram video, the 97 is getting a laceless update for its next release. Shown in three colors, Volt, Silver, and Black, each pair restructures the upper to remove any trace of a lacing system, using the AM97’s wavy layers to form concentric circles around the tongue and forefoot areas of the silhouette.
