In 2004, Nike released the Air Max 1 ‘Urawa’, celebrating a premier Japanese football club. Now, they appear to be releasing an updated version of the shoe with a new color scheme for 2023.
Over the last year, Nike has rehashed some of their classic limited-edition Air Max 1 releases from the early 2000s, either recrafting highly sought-after pairs to a tee, or making some adjustments to the original. The latest retro pair falls under the latter category, revisiting 2004’s Air Max 1 ‘Urawa’ with a modern day twist. Originally released to celebrate the Urawa Red Dragons football team in Japan, the 2004 pair featured a bright red color scheme with neutral accents. Now, the 2023 look switches up the color palette, beginning with a black mesh underlay and adding light grey leather overlays on top. Swooshes and laces come in plain white, while red accents for the Air bubble and upper eyelets add a flash of color, alongside gold tongue branding.

Nike’s updated version of the ‘Urawa’ Air Max 1 has not been officially announced for release yet, but it has aa placeholder date of September 1st, 2023. The neutral look celebrating the Urawa Red Dragons will likely release from both the SNKRS app and select retailers, with a price tag of $160.
