Nike is continuing to release some exciting pairs of the Air Max 1 in 2023, continuing the shoe’s anniversary celebration. This week, the 2003 ‘Shima Shima’ look has emerged in a remastered version, coming soon.

The Nike Air Max 1 has seen plenty of special-edition releases over the years, from collaborations with boutique stores to regionally-exclusive drops. In 2003, the brand releases the ‘Shima Shima’ edition, alongside the rest of the now-famous lineup of sneakers. Now, the Swoosh appears to be revisiting this release, as it did with the Air Trainer 1 late in 2022. However, this time they’ve taken the two OG colorways and merged them into one, borrowing colors and details from both to create an updated look. The 2023 remaster Air Max 1 begins with an off-white leather base layer for the toes and collars, with mediu, grey leather panels making up the midfoot and heel counters of the shoe. The wrap-around mudguard and Swooshes come in rich brown nubuck, while brown pinstriping is added to the shoe’s inner lining. Other details include a knit textile tongue with Japanese Kanji branding, and brown laces to complete the look.

Nike’s reissue of the 2003 Air Max 1 ‘Shima Shima’ has not been announced for release, though they are expected to launch through the brand’s European channels sometime in the coming months. Combining the original two colorways into one, pairs are expected to come with a price tag of $160 or more.
