Nike debuted their new Air Max 1 ’86 for Air Max Day this year, recreating the shoe’s original 1986 release before the necessary rework of the midsole for ’87. Now, a new ‘Blue Safari’ look of the remastered pair has surfaced, coming this year.
Nike’s remastered Air Max 1 has had a quiet few months since its debut back in March. After Los Angeles’ Kids of Immigrants helped drop four additional colorways, which saw a small secondary release early this month, we have been anxiously awaiting more styles of the ‘Big Bubble’ model. This week brings us a first look at a new ‘Blue Safari’ pair, which remixes the silhouette with new materials and patterns. The look features a pale grey mesh base, adding light blue canvas for the shoe’s midfoot and heel overlays. The mudguard comes in a printed Safari leather, featuring two shades of blue to achieve the desired contrast, matching the navy blue Swooshes and outsoles. Finally, a simple AIR logo is printed on the outer heels.

Nike has not announced any more releases for their remastered Air Max 1 ’86 yet, though we hope to see more pairs launch before the end of 2023. This ‘Blue Safari’ look in canvas and leather will hopefully see a release from both the SNKRS app and select retailers, with the price tag of $150. UPDATE 6/6/23: Nike has scheduled their ‘Blue Safari’ pair of the Air Max 1 ’86 to release this month, on June 16th, 2023. Dubbed the ‘Lost Sketch’ in their official channels, this pair brings to life one of Tinker’s original sketches of the silhouette, complete with the Safari print mudguard. Pairs will be available via the SNKRS app and select retailers like Bodega for $170.
