The New Balance 992 is going to be everywhere by the time 2020 is through. This week, the brand shared yet another new colorway of the fan-favorite silhouette, this time decorated with layers of purple ripstop and teal suede, arriving in stores soon.
The beloved New Balance 992 is back, and fans of the silhouette are eating up each new release faster than the Boston brand can produce them. Luckily, they have plenty of new colorways in the works for 2020, giving everybody a shot at something they like. The latest look makes some slight changes to the 992’s typical construction, swapping out the standard mesh base layer in favor of some more durable ripstop nylon, featuring a grid pattern. The ripstop layer comes in a bright purple tone before pigskin suede overlays are added in black, and then in a dark teal shade. Grey 3M mid-layers help break up some of the brighter colors, while hints of red along the heel and collar complete the look.

UPDATE 10.23.20: Concepts has revealed that this purple & teal colorway and a plaid pair will release as Concepts exclusives from the brand’s new flagship store in Boston tomorrow, October 24th, 2020. Both colorways come in limited edition production runs and are made exclusively for the Boston brand, likely with price tags between $180 and $220. UPDATE 12.19.20: Once again, the official news regarding this release has become infinitely more confusing. When we first reported on this colorful ripstop pair of the 992, they were simply a new color coming soon. Then, they were a Concepts exclusive, released only at the store’s new Boston location last month. Now, we are being told that they are a collaboration with Tokyo department store Billy’s sold exclusively via the Japanese retailer. Simply put, these shoes have released numerous times so far and may or may not be still available. I managed to get a pair and I still am not sure how. Good luck.
