New Balance has launched its latest campaign in celebration of Black History Month, featuring an apparel and footwear collection designed by a team of Black associates from the brand, and highlighted by the 990v5 and 574 in a regal purple theme.

New Balance has unveiled the new “My Story Matters” collection this week, celebrating Black History Month in style with a mix of apparel and sneakers. Designed from concept to finish by a team of Black associates at New Balance, the project takes its theme from the church, using a regal purple inspired by many gospel choir robes as the design throughline for the collection. The apparel consists of a t-shirt and hoodie with My Story Matters, explained by one of the project’s main collaborators as a way to “drive home the core truth that every Black story has value and deserves a chance to be heard.” For allies who want to show solidarity, a “Their Story Matters” variant is also available. The sneakers in the collection include the Made in US 990v5 and 574, each in its own highly unique color scheme. The 990 begins with a cream white mesh and suede forefoot with burgundy & gold accents, while the heel section of the shoe is swathed entirely in the collection’s signature purple color. The 574 is the opposite, instead featuring a suede purple-dipped toe and black, maroon, and gold quarter and heel sections. Additionally, the 574 features a removable braided lace in gold to wrap around the heel.

New Balance’s two-pack of sneakers celebrating Black History Month has been scheduled to release later this month, on February 15th, 2021. The “My Story Matters” collection of apparel is currently available on the brand’s website, the 990v5 MADE and 574 will drop via the NB Launches platform as well as from Footlocker soon. Prices for the apparel range from $35-$80, while the 574 and 990v5 come with price tags of $90 and $180.
