The New Balance 997 has received plenty of love and affection from both the brand and its fans this year, and the new month is no different. Today, New Balance revealed a special edition, luxurious take on the 997 constructed from Horween leather.

If you’re into footwear, you’ve probably heard of Horween leather, even if you don’t remember where or why. Thankfully, New Balance is here with a beautiful reminder for those a few steps behind. Founded in Chicago in 1905, the Horween Leather Company is one of, if not the, oldest operating leather tannery in the United States. Specializing in cowhide and horsehide, the company has been a major part of outfitting brands like the NFL and your favorite wallet maker for decades. Now, they’re teaming up with New Balance for a special release of the famous 997. The shoes upper is constructed entirely from Horween’s unique dark brown leather, with lighter accents and finishes adorning the smaller pieces and layers, while a bright red lining covers the inside.
