The New Balance 99x series has received a lot of love from fans recently, and the Boston brand is serving up more than we can handle through new colorways and collaborations. This week, the classic 991 surfaced in a new “Mixed Medium” construction.

While many sneakerheads have been focused on New Balance’s first-ever retro of the classic 992 this year, even more some to have completely passed over the 99x silhouette to release in grand fashion this year, the 991. Featuring a more angular design than its successor, the 991 is constructed from a nearly identical upper mounted on an older model of tooling, creating a sleek runner with a large rear section. This week, New Balance has unveiled their latest iteration of the 991, featuring a “Mixed Media” colorway of various colors and materials. The new look begins with a deep navy blue mesh base layer for the upper, before adding midlayers in white and teal in both suede and leather. The overlays come in black suede for the mudguard and lacing system, while grey ballistic nylon snakes up either side of the silhouette, leading to a grey tumbled leather heel counter wrapping around the heel of the silhouette. Finally, flashes of pink add more color via the tongue and heel branding, as well as a sparse hit across the rear of the midsole to complete the look.
