The 20th anniversary of the New Balance 991 running shoe is upon us, and as always, the brand is celebrating in style. To kick off the year-long celebration, the Boston brand has cooked up a limited edition grey colorway of the vintage model, coming soon.
The New Balance 991 turns twenty years old in 2021, a celebratory occasion for the Boston brand and the entire 990X family of footwear. Originally introduced in 2001 as the evolutionary next step for the beloved suite of silhouettes. Marking the beginning of the 990X branding era, the 991 remodeled the mesh and pigskin suede upper with smooth, sweeping lines and curves as well as a brand new midsole that highlighted the shoe’s ABZORB cushioning underneath with visible pockets. Now, in celebration of twenty years of the fan-favorite New Balance model, the New England brand has cooked up a limited-edition grey color scheme for the silhouette. The special-edition release features a flat grey mesh base layer, with a darker slate color making up the shoe’s mid-layers. The suede overlays come in a warm shade of grey, while blue New Balance branding and Abzorb cushioning complete the look.

New Balance’s first anniversary-edition colorway of the classic 991 runners has been scheduled to debut tomorrow, February 26th, 2021. The clean grey color scheme will be available from both New Balance and select retailers, with an elevated price tag of $265 due to the shoe’s Made in UK status.
