The New Balance 990 is…inevitable. Earlier this week, the brand’s new Creative Director of Made in USA, Teddy Santis, gave us a first look at the 990v6, the next addition to the 99x family, coming in 2022.

New Balance’s original 990 first hit the streets in 1982, quickly becoming one of the brand’s premier running shoes, and growing into an extensive family of models all falling under the “99x” label. The past decade has seen a massive surge of popularity for the 990 franchise, which in turn has led to the addition of three new models to the family in the past 10 years alone, the 990v3, v4, and v5 most recently in 2019. Now, the Boston running brand is hard at work in the next entry, the 990v6. Previewed by Teddy Santis, the Aimé Leon Dore founder and frontman who recently took a post as Creative Director for NB, the 990v6 builds on everything we’ve come to love while modernizing the design for a fresh, more sleek look. As always, the v6 is constructed from a series of mesh and suede layers, with many of the shapes and curves being pulled from previous models. The most notable changes to the v6 are the newly streamlines midsole and a more relaxed, less-forward-leaning shape. While Teddy Santis showed off the classic NB grey color, another image of the 990v6 has surfaced online showing off the shoe in navy blue, both of which you can check out below.
