New Balance’s fifth iteration of the famous 990 released last year, to critical aclaim from all corners of the sneaker world. Now, the timeless runner is back for the new year, in a spicy new “Hot Lava” colorway, coming soon.

The New Balance 990v5 is coming off of a massive debut year in 2019. Marked by collaborations with Aimé Leon Dore, Beams, size? YCMC, and more, the fifth iteration in the beloved line of 990s is a smash hit, and rightfully so. Now, the Boston-based brand is bringing the v5 into the new decade with their first release, which coats the silhouette in a fiery “Hot Lava” color scheme. The look begins with a light red tone for the mesh base, that is then echoed throughout the 990v5’s suede overlays along the toe, quarters, and heel. The mixed suede & TPU mid layer comes in a deeper shade of blood red, matching the laces, tongue bade, and TPU heel clip that wraps around the rear of the shoe. Finally, the latest 990v5 rests on a white midsole with a gum rubber outsole.
